When I miss the opportunities of yesterday, dwelling on them in regret doesn’t change what happened. I gain great encouragement from Ruth Chou Simons devotion #7 When You Can’t Turn Back the Clock from her book The Way of the Wildflower. Her Beautifully illustrated and thoughtfully written devotions recenter my today.
I recenter toward God’s hope in Jesus; his death for my redemption and right orienting to His Father and mine. His bursting forth to life from the grave for all who would choose Him and Life. And a choice to walk the narrow road of faith by the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit into broad places of freedom. Dropping the stones of regret as I travel along.
Will you join me to follow Jesus’s narrow way to the Broad places?
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13-14 CSB

I was dwelling on a difficult couple of months recently. The hard parts were resolved but there is a residual feeling of shame and guilt over my part. A nagging sense of squeezing into a less-than mind frame creeps in at night. The middle of the night.
Have you been there? During the day activity keeps mistakes in a room marked shame guilt and blame. The midnight hours allow the negatives to emerge onto prime hunting ground.
The Psalms comfort me with David’s balm of words.
“He brought me forth also into a broad place; He rescued me, because He delighted in me.”
Psalms 18:19
Let’s seek out the broad places where our souls feel God’s delight in who we are, not who we’re not. We can run free leaving shame and guilt in that stinky closet!
Would you join me in this freedom venture? In this seeking God’s goodness in the broad places?
